To Create a Physical Item List and Add Child Items

  1. Open a physical item in the Content pane.
  2. Make sure the Configuration Item attribute is on and there is a value for the Version attribute.
  3. Expand the Lists - Physical Items topic.
  4. Associate a new or existing physical item list document.

    To associate an existing physical item list document:

    1. Click the Query Documents link to search for the relevant physical item list document.
    2. Drag the physical item list document from the search results list into the Lists - Physical Items topic.

    To associate a new physical item list document:

    1. Click the New link.
    2. In the dialog that opens, select the appropriate item list type and click OK.

      A new physical item list document is created and opens as a new tab in the Content pane. The new document has the same number as the parent physical item. The document has the following document attribute values:

      Number <Physical Item Number> [<Version>] <Class>
      Revision 01
      Title <Physical Item Description>
      Class <Document class related to Product Structure Type>
      Tip: From the physical item list you can go to the item list document by clicking the Go to Document icon in the Item List Number field, or you can go back to the physical item by clicking on the Go to Physical Item icon in the For Physical Item field.
  5. In the Physical Item List topic, in the Contained Physical Items section, associate the necessary child physical items, then enter a Line No. and adjust the Quantity for each physical item as needed.

    If you know the physical item number of the physical item you want to associate, you can enter it in the Physical Item No. field and press the <Tab> key. You can also click the Query Physical Items link to search for physical items and then drag the physical items you want from the search results list into the Contained Physical Items section.

  6. For each child physical item that requires a position definition, select the physical item in the Contained Physical Items section, and then enter a Position and adjust the Quantity as needed.
  7. Click the Save icon in the action bar.
Note: The position quantity must equal the total quantity defined in the physical item list. For example, if an item consists of 3 child items of the same type, then three positions must be defined.
